Question: Does your organization use a point system for attendace violations? If so, we would appreciate having a copy of the policy. If not, how do you handle attendance violations? Responses: Our HR would like us to do without an attendance policy, but it is challenging for accountability to not have one. We have lightened our attendance policy recently and have noticed a large increase of call offs, leaving the homes short staffed. An additional option, if not already considered, is to also incentivize attendance. For example, a weekly or monthly raffle for a gift card, or other prize, or even a staggered raffle – a small raffle for weekly perfect attendance, working toward a larger monthly, and even larger quarterly raffle, increasing the chances for winning with ongoing perfect attendance. Perhaps offering a bonus, or an extra vacation day, for perfect quarterly, or even annual perfect attendance, may be an option, for the larger raffles. A carrot, or carrot and stick approach, may help incentivize attendance, hopefully Another thought – the monthly and/or quarterly reward could also be a dinner or other activity, either catered, or dining out, with recognition for those with perfect attendance at the event, and publishing recognition in the agency newsletter. This option would ensure a reward for those that had perfect attendance during the specified time period, while the raffle(s) create additional incentive and competition for perfect attendance Group Home Attendance Policy Adult Day Services Attendance Policy Attendance Policy Attendance Policy This information is a compilation of suggestions, ideas, and opinions shared by INARF Members in response to the featured question.
