Policy on Clients Stealing from other Clients

QUESTION: Do any other agencies have a company policy that covers a client stealing money from other clients?

This is not an agency policy, but it is stated in our Client Handbook. Each client receives a copy upon admission and anytime the handbook is updated.

Taking another person’s belongings or money without their permission may result in one or more of the following actions… (1) a meeting with your “team” (2) a behavior plan being created for you (3) suspension from services as approved by the Director (4) police involvement and/or legal action.
You may be asked to replace or pay for anything that you take or damage.

We use the Elder Justice Act.

No policy, but behavior services would be addressing if needed and client would repay if able, or department would be responsible to repay the person.
Client to Client allegations:
A. The Director of Quality Assurance will keep the appropriate VP/Officer advised of the status of the investigation who will keep the CEO informed as needed.
B. Final determination and resolution of the incident will be completed within five (5) business days (seven (7) calendar days).
C. When neglect or abuse is determined to have occurred, appropriate action shall be taken immediately up to and including termination from services. The service recipient will be informed of the Consumer Grievance process.
D. Criminal charges may be filed by the organization if the circumstances warrant.
E. Upon final determination a wide variety of other activities may result to assure a safe environment is maintained for all service recipients including, but not limited to, special meetings of the individual’s support team, individual adaptations, additional staff training, etc.
F. The Director of Quality Assurance will inform all parties of the outcome of the investigation while maintaining appropriate confidentiality for all persons involved.
G. The Director of Quality Assurance maintains the results of all investigations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation between persons receiving services.
