Do other organizations offer a shift differential to your direct care staff for weekend and evening shifts?

QUESTION: Do other organizations offer a shift differential to your direct care staff for weekend and evening shifts? If so, do you feel like the differential makes a difference in your recruiting efforts?

We do not offer a shift differential for weekend or 2nd/3rd shifts. We have tossed around the idea and asked a few other non-profits in our area about their experience and it does not seem to make that big of an impact on recruiting or retention.

***

Our agency offers a small differential for staff that work weekends (as part of their regular schedule); but, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make much difference to the recruiting (or the retention).

***

Our Residential Services offers Part-Time hours a higher rate with the following criteria: -The employee must maintain weekly hours at 29 or below -The employee must work a minimum of one weekend shift per week. The weekend is defined as Friday night at 10:00 PM through Sunday at midnight. The recruiting effort targets college students who are looking to supplement their income while in school. We also look for individuals in the community who may be looking to pick up a second job working weekends. The shift differential has increased the attractiveness of our job fairs as well as helped us fill essential shifts.
