QUESTION: We are looking into getting an electronic MAR system. What systems are other agencies using? What is good and bad about the system your organization uses? Any system to avoid? We have been using Caresuite's QuickMAR system as our Medication Management eMAR Solution since 2018. We love it. It is very easy to use for staff and has great customer support. The staff choose a time frame they are passing meds (am, pm, prn, etc) and only the meds they need to pass are displayed, which makes it much easier for them to see what they need to do. By setting up integrations to the long term care pharmacies we use, we have significantly reduced workload for our nurses. (All prescriptions that go through the long term care facilities automatically flow into the software. We have ours set up so our nurses just have to approve them for them to go to the clients chart and be ready to pass). It works even when the internet is down. It allows us to track things outside of meds as well, such as BM tracking. Notifications are sent when someone hasn't received their meds in a specific window, etc. I highly recommend it. We also were able to get a long term care pharmacies to pay the integration cost, as it saves them a lot of time as well. We are using QuickMAR for electronic MARs. It is pretty user friendly and allows for real time information to be uploaded directly from the pharmacy or nurse. The one difficulty is that QuickMAR contracts with the Pharmacy not the provider, which causes the provider to have limited control. We are using AccuFlow, pharmacy. We recommend it. We are currently using ECP for our electronic MAR system. This information is a compilation of suggestions, ideas, and opinions shared by INARF Members in response to the featured question.
