QUESTION: How do other agencies address the issue of staff transporting consumers in their personal vehicles? Many of our employees are being informed by their insurance companies that they will not be covered if they are transporting consumers unless they add passenger insurance, which costs more. Do other agencies require that their employees who transport carry passenger insurance coverage? We require that employees show proof of liability insurance. We have not heard of any issues with employees being required to obtain and maintain passenger insurance. *** Our employees are asked to provide proof of insurance for their vehicles, but we do not require that they carry passenger insurance. *** For any employees that transport individuals in their personal vehicle, our agency only requires that they carry Liability coverage in the amount of $100,000 each person/$300,000 each accident. *** Our agency does require that employees maintain additional passenger coverage if transporting individuals when it is not covered under their standard policy. However, if the additional coverage has to be obtained, our agency pays the additional cost. *** We do not require that employees carry additional passenger coverage. Those that have run into the issue of their insurance carrier have switched to another carrier and had no further issues.
