Teresa Grossi, Center Director Center on Community Living and Careers Indiana Institute On Disability and Community Indiana University Bloomington tgrossi@indiana.edu 812-855-4070 The Indiana Secondary Transition Resource Center (INSTRC) Center on Community Living and Careers Indiana Institute on Disability and Community Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/cclc http://www.instrc.indiana.edu/ INSTRC is part of the Indiana Resource Network Funded By the Indiana Department Of Education What Has Been • Long history of collaboration with schools, VRS and CRPs • VRS gave “grants” to CRPs to work with school on outreach and access fro services (2006) • We learned a few things statewide: – CRPs know employers – CRPs are better equipped for job placement – Students had more access to VRS & BDDS services when a CRP assisted in the process • Community transition councils (greater number) • Greater number of transition coordinators • New Project SEARCH sites (11 sites across the State) What Is • Six resource centers were funded by IDOE (improving 20 performance indicators) • Secondary Transition Resource Center – Increase graduation rates – Decrease drop out rates – Improve Transition IEPs – Improve Post-school outcomes • Conduct professional development, technical assistance and coaching within school districts to improve indicator data • Cadre of Transition Leaders – 7 Cadres – Implementing evidence-based practices around on family involvement strategies, self-determination skills, matrix of transition resources, identifying and using data, collaboration with VRS – Improve Transition IEPs – Improve Post-school outcomes • Developing resources, resources and more resources • Collaboration with other school initiatives, VRS and IN*SOURCE (parent center) • State Transition Workgroup (“290”) completed a policy analysis that led to an MOU with DDRS and IDOE.
